Create a subdomain

WhatsApp requires you to use a link that shows the identity of your business to minimise the amount of spam links. To create your subdomain;

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Charles Shortner and click the ⚙️. A pop-up will appear

  2. In the Subdomains tab, select Create subdomain

The subdomain you enter here will be use to generate your short link. We highly recommend that you use a subdomain that represent your company identity.

Set UTM parameters

You have the possibility to pre-configure the UTM parameters you want to use to track your campaign’s performance. These parameters will be injected into the link when toggled on.

To set the UTM parameters;

  1. Go to Settings → Link Tracking → Campaign UTM settings:

Source

Static. This value will presumably not change from one campaign to the next and is used to identify charles as your source of traffic.

Medium

Static. This value will also presumably not change and identifies the marketing channel.

Campaign

Dynamic. The value adjusts to the name of the campaign.

ID

Dynamic. The value adjusts to the ID of the campaign and is used to uniquely identify a campaign and see your Google Analytics data in charles.

Term

Use UTM term to track keywords or phrases.

Content

Use UTM content to differentiate campaigns based on their content, which can be useful for A/B testing.
