What is a carousel template?

Carousel templates allow businesses to send a single text template with a set of up to 10 carousel cards in a horizontally scrollable view.

⚠️ Editing carousels in the WhatsApp Business Manager
Please do not edit approved carousel templates in your business manager. We found a bug that removes all carousel cards and creates a corrupted template. Instead, we recommend duplicating the template and editing it in charles to avoid any issues.

  • Media: An image or a video

  • Text: Body text describing the product or service

  • Buttons: At least one action, or quick reply, with a maximum of two buttons

Card Structure Consistency

To maintain a cohesive look, all carousel cards in a single template must adhere to the same structure:

  • Header Type: All cards must have either all images or all videos.

  • Buttons: The number and type of buttons will be consistent across all cards, arranged in the same order.

How to create a carousel template in campaigns?

Step 1: Create a Campaign

  • Enter the campaign name and coupon details.

  • Proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Template Setup

  • Fill in the required template details.

  • Select the "Carousel" template type.

  • Create the template.

Step 3: Customize Carousel Cards

  • Use the carousel template builder to:

    • Add body text.

    • Select the media type (image or video).

    • Add buttons.

  • Customize the cards as desired.

Step 4: Submit for Approval

  • Once all desired cards are added, submit the template to WhatsApp for approval.

Step 5: Setup and Publish

  • Configure the campaign audience.

  • Publish the campaign.

How to create a Carousel template in Journeys

To create a Carousel template in Journeys, right-click on the canvas and create a "Send update" node. Next, select Carousel and click on "Create".

To configure the template, please follow the steps outlined above.

Note, that for URL buttons, no separate outgoing ports are added to the node. Each added quick reply button (QRB) creates a new port on the canvas node so that you can lead people into different parts of the flow depending on which QRB they click on.

How to add dynamic links to Carousel templates in Journeys

Step 1: Configure URL button

To create dynamic links, select "URL" button from the drop down and then, click on "Configure URL Button".

Step 2: Select dynamic from drop down

Step 3: Add URL (variable or static) and add dynamic key value pairs

In dynamic URLs, you can customize the domain and the slug of the URL individually. To define the domain, please select a variable or write a static domain in the first text field. To add dynamic key value pairs, click the "Add more keys" button and define them one by one.

Note that the URL preview is updated live and always displays the fully constructed link including UTM parameters. Variables are displayed in blue to indicate the dynamic placeholder.
