How to set up Opt-in collection (e.g. on the Thank You Page)

It is possible to collect opt-ins and send order tracking notifications to clients, even if they purchase items directly in your online store. This means, your clients can submit their WhatsApp phone number after they have completed the purchase in the order confirmation or so-called Thank you page, if they want to receive automated order tracking notifications on WhatsApp or simply if they want to receive newsletters.

Getting an opt-in from your contacts is crucial, as it will enable businesses to send non-transactional notifications to their contacts, such as product recommendations, relevant offers, product back-in-stock reminders etc.

⚠️ This only works if you have upgraded to “Shopify Checkout Extensibility”. If not, please proceed with this guide instead.

Step 1: Update Setup of your Shopify Integration

To prepare for the widget to be displayable on your Thank You page, you need to update your Shopify Integration from its settings page.

For this, navigate to “Settings” > “Integrations” > “Shopify” and click on the gear. A popup opens up.

Then, click on “Setup” button, and you’re all set!

Step 2: Configure the widget

To customize and activate the widget to be displayed in the order status page, please head over to "Automations" > "Thank You Page opt-in".

First, you will need to select an existing opt-in, so that any customers who submit their opt-in through this widget will be assigned to the opt-in you are selecting there.

Next, on the “Opt-in request” tab, you can update any text and link in the widget, and you will be able to preview it right away. You can change the style of the widget.

You don’t need to insert a CSS selector if you are using Shopify Checkout Extensibility.

After the customer confirms the opt-in by clicking on the CTA button, a success message will be displayed on the order status page. The text for this success message can be configured on the “Success message” tab.

Once you are happy with the wording, you may hit "Save", and the widget will appear on the order confirmation page.

Step 3: Set up the widget in the Drag-&-Drop Editor of Checkout Extensibility

Navigate to “Setting” > “Checkout” and click on “Customize”.

Next, select “Thank you” from the Checkout dropdown, switch to “Sections” in the sidebar and click on “Add app block” at the bottom left.

After clicking on “checkout_ui”, the widget should automatically appear (see next step).

By dragging and dropping the widget on the left side, you can change the positioning on the TY Page.

Step 4: Opt-in consent on the Shopify order confirmation page

If successful, the widget will automatically appear on the shop order confirmation page. Customers who purchase via the online store can then submit their opt-in consent to receive order tracking messages through WhatsApp if they wish.

After an opt-in consent has been submitted, a contact and a feed will be created immediately in the universe, and the following will happen:

  • The contact will immediately receive an order confirmation message and the opt-in status will automatically be set as active

  • You will also find the order associated with the newly created contact
