Troubleshooting "Submit Failed" Errors for Message Templates

The "submit failed" error while creating a message template.

Updated this week

The "submit failed" error typically occurs during the message template submission step. This guide will walk you through the most common causes and how to resolve them.

Common Causes and Solutions

Template Requirements

For your template to be submitted successfully, it must meet several content and formatting rules.

  • Main Text is Mandatory: You must always have content in the main text field. The header and footer are optional.

  • No Emojis in Buttons, Headers and Footers: Using emojis in the text these fields will cause the submission to fail.

  • Paragraph Spacing: Ensure there is a maximum of one blank line between paragraphs.

  • Link: Make sure your link is filled in correctly without any spaces and it has https://.

Media Formatting

If you are using a media header (image, video, or document), ensure it meets the specific formatting requirements.

Approval Process and Timing

After you submit your template, there is a two-step waiting period:

  1. Meta Approval: It typically takes 2-10 minutes for Meta to approve a template. However, it can sometimes take up to 48 hours.

  2. Post-Approval Sync: After your template is approved, you must wait another 10-15 minutes before it can be sent. If you try to send it too soon, you may encounter a "Template doesn't exist in this language" error.

  3. Submit Failed error: If the same error occurs, please review your template and create a new one.

Steps to Resolve

If you encounter a "submit failed" error, please follow these steps:

  1. Check Template Formatting: Review your template to ensure it meets all the content and media formatting requirements listed above.

  2. Create a new template: Duplicate your campaign to edit a new template, because the failed one canโ€™t be submitted one more time. Otherwise you may open your Campaign and create a new template from a scratch!

  3. Remove Emojis from Buttons, Headers and Footers: Double-check that these fields do not contain any emojis.

  4. Check a link: Double-check if it has a proper format.

  5. Check your media file extension: Double-check size, dimensions, and the file extension. You may also try to convert it from PNG to JPEG or vice versa.

  6. Submit and Wait for Approval: Submit the template and wait for it to be approved by Meta.

  7. Wait Before Sending: After receiving approval, wait an additional 10-15 minutes before testing or sending the template.
